Sleddogsport

What is sleddogsport?

Sleddogsport is a collective term for all sports in which a dog pulls a human behind it - with or without a "vehicle". Different disciplines are distinguished, which are either performed on foot, on skis, on a bicycle, scooter, Sacco Cart, trike or sledge. In all these disciplines, dog and human (and the vehicle) are connected by a pull rope. The dog runs ahead and pulls what it is supposed to pull.

For us, however, the sleddogsport is more than just letting the dog pull you. For us it is a team sport, because the better you and your dog are attuned to each other, the better the sleddogsport works.

Which disciplines belong to the sleddogsport?

  • classic sleddogsport,
  • Dog Trike - sleddogsport with a three-wheeled training trolley,
  • Sacco Cart - sleddogsport with a four-wheeled training trolley,
  • Dogscooter - sleddogsport with a scooter,
  • Bikejöring - sleddogsport with a bike,
  • Dogtrekking - hiking with a dog in the pull and
  • Canicross - running with a dog in the pull

What equipment do I need for the sleddogsport?

A good harness is one of the most important pieces of equipment for your dog to participate in this sport. A well-fitting harness prevents tension and injuries.

For all disciplines of sleddogsports, a pull line is needed to connect the dog to you or your "vehicle". A good leash can have a big impact on your dog as it absorbs shocks.

When bikejoring and dog scooting, you and your dog are travelling at high speed. Therefore, safety is very important. Using a bike antenna reduces the likelihood of the bungee leash getting tangled in the front wheel. Therefore, you should definitely mount one on your bike or scooter.

If you want to run canicross with your dog, you need a well-fitting canicross belt. All of your dog's power is transferred to your body through the belt. A well-designed running belt for canicross will therefore minimise the strain on your lower back, even if your dog pulls very hard.

When dog trekking, you cover longer distances with your dog. That's why you also need sleeping bags for you and your dog, dog blankets, a first aid kit, paw protection, water bowls, etc. as well as enough water and food. It is important that the equipment is small and light. With a dog backpack, your dog can also carry some of the equipment.
